Final Year Optometry Student Wins Prestigious Research Grant

Nana Aba Senuwah Ashon, a final year student of the Department of Optometry and Visual Science, College of Science, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been awarded the 2022 Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) Research Grant Primary Award.

The CANTAB Research Grant is an international award accessible to anyone conducting research in the fields of neuroscience, psychology and related fields where cognitive function is being measured. This primary award consisted of £1000 and 150 CANTAB assessment tests. 

Nana Aba and her colleagues are conducting a study titled “Relationship between Dietary Carotenoid intake, Cognitive and Visual Function among children in selected schools in Ghana”. This project is being supervised by Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo, Senior lecturer and Head of Department, Optometry and Visual Science, College of Science, KNUST. This funding will enable them to gain access to the highly validated and reliable CANTAB tests necessary for assessing measures of cognitive function in their study.
