KNUST Optometry Students Association Hosts "Time with Visionary Optometrists" Program

In a bid to inspire and educate budding optometrists, the KNUST Chapter of the Optometry Students Association of Ghana (OSAG) organized a compelling program titled "Time with Visionary Optometrist" on Friday, 9th February 2024. Held at the esteemed Allotey Auditorium of the College of Science, KNUST, the event aimed to shed light on the theme of "Nurturing Dreams in KNUST."

The program commenced at 10:30 am and boasted an impressive lineup of speakers, including Mr. Otieku-Boadu Patrick, a Heartmath certified trainer, and Ms. Dione Adofo, an Optometrist and Founder of SHE IS STEM UK.

During her address, Ms. Adofo shared her journey to becoming an optometrist, citing reasons such as the professional prestige associated with the field in the United Kingdom and her passion for providing care to others. Drawing comparisons between optometry practices in Ghana and the UK, Ms. Adofo emphasized factors like working hours and earning potential, noting significant disparities between the two contexts. Additionally, she highlighted her personal initiative, SHE IS STEM (SIS), aimed at empowering women in STEM fields.

On the other hand, Mr. Patrick Otieku-Boadu delved into the ethics of corporate management within the optometry sector. He underscored the importance of prioritizing patient care and fostering a client-centric approach. Drawing parallels between academic excellence and professional conduct, Otieku-Boadu stressed the need for optometrists to prioritize patient satisfaction and address their needs comprehensively.

The event culminated in a presentation of citations of honor to the esteemed speakers by the Head of the Department of Optometry and Visual Science, Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Kabir, garnering appreciation for their invaluable insights. The seminar concluded at 12:50 pm, with a vote of thanks delivered by Edith Basing, the OSAG-KNUST General Secretary.
