New England College of Optometry’s SVOSH Chapter Donates to KNUST's Department of Optometry and Visual Science
The New England College of Optometry’s Student Chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) in Boston, USA, has donated a wide range of essential equipment and educational resources to the Department of Optometry and Visual Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The donation includes a full collection of equipment vital to the practice of optometry. Among the items are Tumbling E Visual Acuity Charts, Keeler Binocular Indirect Ophthalmoscope, Worth 4 Dot Light with Red and Green Spectacles, Occluders, Near Target, PD rules, Contrast Sensitivity Screener Chart and a Double Aspheric Volk Lens (90D). These state-of-the-art tools will provide students with hands-on experience and facilitate their understanding of various optometric procedures.
In addition to the equipment, the donation includes a variety of educational books to enrich KNUST's library. This valuable addition will ensure that students have access to comprehensive literature that will broaden their horizons and foster a culture of continuous learning.
The faculty and students at the Department were thrilled to receive this significant donation, which will undoubtedly enhance the educational experience for both current and future optometry students. Dr. Kwadwo Owusu Akuffo, the head of the Department of Optometry and Visual Science at KNUST, expressed his appreciation, stating, "We are immensely grateful to Dr. Bina Patel and the SVOSH Chapter at New England College of Optometry for their exceptional generosity. These resources will play a crucial role in preparing our students for successful careers in optometry." The Department also extends its gratitude to Dr. William Amuah, an accomplished alumnus of KNUST, for spearheading the transportation of the donated items to Ghana.
