Our Vision
To be the leading centre of excellence in optometric education, patient care, and ophthalmic research, producing optometrists and vision scientists who meet global standards and compete at the highest level.
Our Mission
We exist to advance knowledge in optometry and vision science by creating an environment for clinical competence, cutting-edge research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training, and community engagement to improve quality of life.
Objectives
- To train optometrists with the knowledge, clinical skills and attitudes required to meet the visual needs of Ghanaians and other Africans.
- To equip graduates with the knowledge and skills that meet the highest global standards of clinical and research competence.
- To train vision scientists with the requisite skills to investigate and provide solutions to contribute to the resolution of visual health challenges in Ghana, Africa and the global community.
- To train optometrists who understand the key role of the profession for serving the visual and general health needs of their communities, and whose practice serves as an entry into the healthcare systems of nations.
- To train graduates who recognize the need for further personal development and self-improvement, through mentorship, self-directed development and active participation in local and global professional associations and peer groupings.
- To equip graduates to the breadth of vision science disciplines as the basis for further academic and research training in the vision sciences.
- To undertake clinical and educational outreaches to communities in Ghana to provide quality eye care services, and to introduce our students to real-life health challenges of the people in those communities.
