Welcome

Sight is one of our most precious gifts and the optometrist is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of this gift. Optometrists, through academic and clinical training, are able to provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.

For the past twenty years The KNUST Department of Optometry and Visual Science (DOVS) has produced over 250 optometrists serving all over the country in both the public and private sector,  in collaborations with the rest of the eye care team to make the achievement of the goals  of “Vision 2020”  The Right to Sight, a reality in Ghana.

Strategically, we remain one of the smallest departments at KNUST, yet our impact is well felt both within and outside the university community due to the services we constantly provide.

There are few eye clinics in Ghana today that does not boast of a KNUST DOVS doctor. Our graduates are providing eye care services to areas around the country that would never have known an eye care practitioner
